Bio / Statement

Siona Marie Marques was born in Brooklyn, New York. She is primarily a self-taught artist. She has exhibited in solo and group shows and her first catalog of small-number limited editions was published in 2005. She earned MA and BS degrees from the University of Florida. She is of Caribbean & South American descent and is influenced in part by the bold, vivid hues that characterize artwork from these areas.

In a nutshell, this is minimalist art, abstract, basic, raw, to-the-point, and oh so primal. It's also contemporary, abstract, surreal, and sometimes figurative.
WIth that being said, it's so hard to write a statement that covers all my work. Because my work keep changing as I grow. And I keep growing as I work. And to tell the truth, I've written about nine already, and combined, they still don't paint the complete picture....so I'm keeping these statements as essays that may later be published...and I do have statements about particular pieces or series that do describe the specific works...but if you insist, click here for the attempt. Also, check out my blogspot. Many of my former statements will end up here. If nothing else, it does give a better perspective about who I am as a person first, and an artist second...........
